I felt myself flush, blood rushing to my face. Adrenaline was already coursing through my veins after what had happened, making me feel good, excited, happy. And then Jake had to come in and rain on my parade. Not only that, but call my story unimportant and stupid. It felt like an honest to God slap in the face.

"It is not stupid," I said between gritted teeth. "This is my life. This is what I want to do with it. And, yeah, I'd say that story really was that important. It's a drug ring, Jake. People deserve to know about that. People should know what's going on in their city."
