So they're young enough to be at school, which gives Hopper another reason to stop by for a visit and see what he can learn. Unlike Beverly, though, he doesn't know this girl and so he's not about to announce that, but when he drops by to talk to Bev's P.E. teacher, he thinks he might do a little looking around and see what else he can learn.
